Erecting a Giant at Paradip

Team Hydrocarbon pulls off the erection of one of the longest columns in dressed-up condition for IOCL at Paradip, Odisha.
In a remarkable display of superlative engineering and project management skills, on February 13, 2021, the team responsible for IOCL’s upcoming Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) Plant at its Paradip Refinery in Odisha, successfully erected the first Super ODC Equipment viz., De-ethyleniser, in less than 24 hours of receiving it at site.
The De-ethyleniser, 91m in length and weighing a massive 746MT stood tall after a gruelling lift and installation session which lasted several hours as the team worked furiously with a precision of finely oiled machine.
The De-ethyleniser was delivered at site on February 12, 2021, in a dressed-up condition - insulated, platformed, and with pipe supports. Flagged off from L&T’s Hazira Manufacturing Complex, a month earlier in January, it received all the balance dress-up work viz., insulation patchworks, handrails installation, and overhead line installation at site a on “war footing” basis.
Using the Mammoet 2000MT Heavy Lift Crane (PT-50), the team erected the equipment as per the plan in a carefully orchestrated lift. The event was on critical Path of the Project as it directly governed the sequence of the crane.
The erection of De-ethyleniser carried out by the MEG Project team is one of the longest columns erected in dress-up condition. Senior officials from IOCL and Mammoet who were on hand to witness the momentous occasion congratulated Team Hydrocarbon on its success.
