Our CSR interventions - based on commitment, mobilization of employee volunteerism, innovative approaches, appropriate technology and key partnerships - have been making lasting differences in the lives of underprivileged sections of society. Further, synergy between corporate actions and the Government and NGOs are making CSR interventions more effective in facilitating inclusive development. We have a CSR policy with built-in, self-regulating mechanisms to monitor and ensure their adherence to law, ethical standards, and international norms. Our Business embraces responsibility for the impact of their activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere.
With a stated objective to bring positive social change and improve the quality of life in the communities where we operate, we operate across four key areas:
In our endeavor towards creating better quality of life in the communities we operate, our focus has been to provide access to safe drinking water. Installation of hand pumps & bore wells, construction of check dams and ponds for improving the water table have been carried out. Individual & community toilets have been constructed in villages and awareness drives undertaken through street plays, focused group discussions.
Taking a cue from the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan call for action to eliminate open defecation in India, we have been involved in improving the household sanitation situation in villages in and around our plants. One such village is Alva in Vadodara District .A significant number of homes here did not have toilets and practiced open defecation. Our CSR project here was started with the aim of constructing toilets operated through community partnership with local representatives and the Sarpanch. The objective of the programme was to improve the sanitation and hygiene situation in the villages, especially targeting the vulnerable such as women and the elderly. 141 toilets have been constructed in Alva village.
We have also contributed towards the construction of toilets in schools and Anganwadi Centres in the rural areas of Chennai and Maharashtra.
Supporting Education Programmes in rural and slum areas has been part of our CSR intervention. Supporting pre-school education, ensuring quality education for primary school children, infrastructure support for creating a better educational environment, teachers’ training and scholarships to meritorious students form a part of our Education Projects. For all these projects we work in collaboration with reputed NGOs and Community Based Organizations (CBOs).
For instance, we work with NGO partners to provide educational support to pre-school and primary school children living in the urban slums of Vadodara and Mumbai through learning centers .We have reached out to 22,168 children since 2015. These centres provide year-round learning support, based on school curriculums. The majority of teachers are young women from local communities. The initiative also engages in capacity development of these teachers in terms of classroom management, concept knowledge and curriculum delivery; the overall objective has been to ensure measurable and visible improvement in the enrollment and learning levels of underprivileged children through supplementary education.
Education through Technology:In support of the Digital India Campaign, we engaged with an NGO, Yash Krishi Takniki Evam Vigyan Kendra (YASTK) to impart teaching using technology in municipal boards in Vadodara using audiovisual means, animation and other technology to facilitate teaching from class 1 to 8. The audiovisual systems are designed in a manner that generates curiosity amongst children and develops their willingness and enthusiasm to learn in interactive environment. 40 schools in Vadodara were reached through this Programme.
Our goal is improved access to quality healthcare through partnerships with Primary Health Centers, Community Health Centers and District Hospitals. Medical Camps, Awareness Programme on Maternal and Child Health Care, Immunization form part of our intervention. A Primary Health Centre in Mora Village, Gujrat has been renovated by LTHE and is benefitting the local community and the health workers in the PHC.
We help enhance employability of youth through various Skill Building Programmes teaching various trades like wielding, automation, through Govt. ITIs & NGOs. Our interventions in this area have made a positive change in the lives of communities around our operational areas.
